AAU first-years will explore Staropramen Brewery next Saturday for free as part of a mentor-organized event.
25 registered students will take part in a 30-minute guided tour of the historical building, which will end at the Brewery Bar, offering an opportunity to refresh with drinks and food.
“There will be a free beer after,” wrote Amelie Villagómez, a mentor and organizer, when sharing the opportunity with freshmen.
Mentors organized the excursion to help new students bond and explore their new city. All first-years are welcome, regardless of major, but only the first 25 students to sign up can receive a spot. Visitors can choose from various alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages on the menu, which are served in glasses handmade by Czech glassmakers. The company also offers beer tastings with four or six different brews.
Located in Smíchov, Staropramen Brewery is the second largest brewery in the Czech Republic, showcasing the over 200-year history of the well-beloved Czech drink. The tour, led by Brewmaster Josef Paspa, is an interactive journey through time from 1869 to today accompanied by narrations and holograms.
The brand’s name originates from the old mineral water spring in Smichov where the beer is brewed: staro meaning old, and pramen meaning ‘spring’ in Czech. It started small, but the company now exports to over 38 countries globally.
The group will meet at Staropramen Visitor Centre at 4:15 on September 26 before heading to Pivovarská Street to immerse themselves in Staropramen’s rich history and taste the famous lager.
