AAU’s Student Affairs introduced the idea of a pre-paid meal plan option following interest in additional dining options during the 2024 Student Satisfaction Survey.
The Cafe des Taxis is the primary on-campus meal option with affordable but limited options. Students can also dine off-campus at Charles University canteen or the vending machine in the main building.
According to Jeta Sahatqija, the Vice President of Student Affairs, the potential meal plan would entail a convenient, prepaid system with on-campus meals and potential off-campus options as well.
Kieran Mulhall, the cafe co-owner, said that the cafe is not involved.
“AAU would work with a third party agency whose role would be to identify and coordinate with an appropriate meal supplier and coordinate with the students who are interested,” said Sahatqija.
Students like Alma Hurem wouldn’t need a meal plan as she lives with her parents but agrees that stress free deliveries could be a huge benefit to others.
Beatriz Pengo, a student cafe employee who gets a cafe meal with each shift, is interested in the dining plan.
“On a weekly basis, [she’d pay] maximum 120 to 130 czk per meal,” said Pengo.
Pricing, logistics, and suppliers have not been discussed yet, but the Cafe des Taxis is not worried about potentially losing customers.
“Students come here everyday; this is just extra choices,” said Mulhall.
