The AAU Film Watchers Club, where students gather in the library with wine and snacks to watch professor-picked movies, will kick off a new season of screenings this Thursday at 18:30 under the theme “Cult of the Occult.”
The club is one of the most popular at AAU, winning the Club of the Year award twice, and is expected to bring in a full house to the library for the opening night, where Professor Anthony Marais will be playing a film.
“We’re expecting to see all of our loyal cinephiles again, but we’re also excited to welcome new faces,” said Rebecca Bustamante, third year AAU student and Film Watchers Club President. “Many of us have invited friends from outside the university, so we might be seeing a full house again. Some of us might even have to sit on the floor, which is a fun problem to have.”
The theme “Cult of the Occult,” as described by the club’s instagram, invites professors to choose movies that are strange, supernatural, and spooky, inspired by the beginning of the autumn season in Prague.
“It’s always lovely to see where our lecturers’ creativity takes us,” Bustamante said. “We’re waiting with open arms, wine, films and great conversation.”
