AAU’s First Official Event of the Year Brings Strong Turnout

The annual Back To School Party at Café Des Taxis had a strong turnout as the first official event of the new year, proving to be an energetic start to the semester.

“Free food and drinks with friends? Why wouldn’t I come?” Madison Loughrin, a first-year Humanities student said.

Organized by the Student Council, the event offered free food and drinks, a lively atmosphere and temporary escape from the looming reality of semester-long deadlines. Decorated for Valentine’s Day, the space felt festive from the very start.

As the music shifted between popular hits and nostalgic throwbacks, the courtyard quickly turned to a dance floor with students singing along. Many who initially claimed they were just “stopping by for a minute,” were later spotted dancing.

Council members were present throughout the night, ensuring the event went smoothly and everyone got cards for free drinks. Students who were still present by the end of the night were offered leftover food to take home.

“I was incredibly happy with the outcome of the party. We had great attendance and many of us on the council believe it was much higher attended than similar events in the past, and especially that it seemed people stayed much longer than usual,” Conner Frey, the events coordinator for the Student Council, said.

If this celebration is any indication of what’s to come this semester, then students can look forward to the future events including next weeks Mugs and Minds.
