Student Council Treasurer, Connor Reid, resigned from his position earlier this month citing personal and academic reasons. His departure comes amid concerns over a mishandling of last semester’s club finances.
As the spring semester began, several club leaders reported that they did not receive reimbursement for club activities during the Fall 2025 semester, despite following the correct procedures and staying within budget.
Afternoon Tea Club President, Julia Osterman, was contacted by a student council member who claimed there was no record of the receipts from her last meeting or a 140 CZK cash return of her unspent club budget.
“I didn’t know that there was anything wrong until this semester. I didn’t do anything about it because I knew I had [returned the money],” Osterman said.
Reid officially resigned from the position in January, stating that he had considered resigning from the highly demanding position for months prior.
“These [personal] factors make it unwise to do anything besides those that are absolutely essential,” said Reid in regards to his decision to focus on his personal matters.
A week before the spring semester began, Student Council President Gregorie Marincas-Bucy discovered that receipts had not been filed and reimbursement claims were not processed. Since then, Student Council members are revisiting last semester’s claims and talking with students to determine the extent of the issue.
“We were operating under the assumption that everything was handled, now we are working around the clock to make sure that all club leaders will be compensated properly, and to make sure this doesn’t happen again,” said Marincas-Bucy.
The Student Council acted to fill the position of Treasurer with third year student Maggi Leroux, who ran against Reid during the election for Treasurer in September 2025. Marincas-Bucy and Reid both expressed confidence in the new Treasurer.
“Regardless, Maggi will do a great job, and I know the council will function better with someone more invested and willing than I,” said Reid.
Marincas-Bucy emphasized that the student council is working closely with the Manager of Student Experience & Engagement, Marketa Fillingerova, and the Bursar to ensure club leaders’ reimbursement.
Osterman confirmed that her receipts and money were found, “I didn’t pay anything, so I secured the money for this semester.”
The Student Council budget is made public on the Student Council website, allowing anyone to view the distribution of club finances each semester.
