Prague Comic-Con Features Hollywood Stars, Drawing Largest Crowds Yet

The 7th annual Prague Comic-Con saw the highest attendance on record, drawing more than 28,000 fans for a weekend of elaborate cosplay, international vendors and panels featuring the actors and creators of franchises spanning from The Lord of the Rings to Star Trek.

Cosplayers of all ages shuffled through the convention, spread across four levels of the O2 arena. The floors were divided by technology, art, shopping and games, with rooms being used for panels hosted mainly in Czech.

One Star Trek fan group set up a replica of the Bridge on the third level, displaying prop guns for fans to admire and pose for photos in front of a backdrop. This was the Czech group’s fourth Prague Comic-Con, and as one member said, their only complaint was that they couldn’t walk around the convention more.

Besides replicas and merchandise, booths of original art also occupied an entire floor of the convention. Vendors sold everything from hand-drawn illustrations of sci-fi characters to miniature Dungeons&Dragons sculptures.

Artist Nigel Sade, who is based in Italy, has attended Prague Comic-Con six times out of its seven year history.

“I wanted to come to see Prague, that was the entire reason I came in the first place. But then I fell in love with Prague and the people that run this show are amazing, and so I’ve been back almost every year since,” said Sade.

The event’s busiest day was Saturday, as tickets sold out far in advance. Comic-Con being a multi-generational, family friendly event; many parents with young kids waited until Sunday to visit the con hoping for a less overwhelming crowd.

One man dressed as Batman brought his two young children dressed as the Joker and Harley Quinn to Comic-Con on Sunday afternoon.

“To be honest we are just here for one or two hours, we just want to quickly go through, buy some stuff and if we’re lucky see Pippin, but I think it will be crowded,” said the father.

The actor who played Pippin in the original Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Billy Boyd, was the most anticipated guest of Prague Comic-Con 2026. Boyd closed out the weekend event in a discussion on Sunday afternoon titled, “The Last Goodbye with Pippin.”

Star Wars fan Vojtech, who has attended every single Prague Comic-Con, came dressed this year in full clone trooper armor but was awaiting the chance to see Boyd.

“I’m obviously a big fan of Star Wars but also Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter and everything in this genre, so seeing Pippin face to face will be really nice,” said Vojtech.

According to a vendor representing Wygly, a company of 3D printed toy’s, most of the Prague Comic-Con attendees are central and eastern European as many western European vendors view Prague as too far and foreign. However, Czech-based companies, such as Wygly, often travel to countries like Switzerland, France and Italy for Comic-Con’s or similar fan events.

As thousands of people left the weekend exhausted from the excitement and surely having spent a little too much money, many fans eagerly await next year’s event. Prague Comic-Con will return in 2027, but in the remaining 362 days, fans can spend the year polishing up costumes for next year.
