AAU hosted its bi-annual Club Fair this Tuesday, where students could learn more about the 27 clubs available or represent their own.
This semester there are 21 returning clubs and six new ones, such as Art Club, Margins Magazine, International Wrestling Club, Music Club, and Gym and Fitness Club, according to Club Coordinator Charlize Ocon.
Students may notice that some clubs were not in attendance including American Civil Society.
“A lot of the time when people discontinue their clubs halfway through the year, it’s because they’re in their last semester and they’re writing their thesis,” said Ocon.
Several clubs are focused on sports and community building. The Ski and Snowboard Club, founded last semester, is already planning another trip.
“We already went on one, and it was a success, around 12 people attended,” the club president, Coen Bensley said.
Another sports addition is the International Wrestling Club, established in December and officially registered under the Czech wrestling federation, allowing members to compete internationally. Now it has around 20 members including women, according to club representative AntonĂn Jeřábek.

Besides sports clubs, students opened creative clubs, such as Art Club and Margins Magazine.
“Margins is an art and literary magazine that we started because students at AAU didn’t have any space to put their creative work,” explained co-president Ander Beramendi Assayag. When asked about the Lennon Wall Magazine, he mentioned that it is concentrated on news and Margins wants to emphasize artistry more.
“Lennon Wall is more about journalism, and we are not. We love Lennon Wall. We’re hoping to collaborate with them soon,” co-president Genevieve Smith said.
For some, it was their first Club Fair, like first-year student Elena Beridzishvili, saying that she will only join the club if meetings are held consistently every week, as she was disappointed last semester.
Others, like first-year student Lidiya Gerassimenko, were less selective about clubs, signing up for a variety of clubs from sports to cultural ones.
“I’ve signed up for climbing and golfing clubs, and I’m also joining Latino Union. I’m not latino but you should really join, Bad Bunny wants you,” Gerassimenko said.
